“There’s two words you don’t hear together very often: subtle and advertising.” As an advertising agent, I agree. It is rare to combine nuance and marketing in the same strategy. Most people are afraid to market their sites, fearing that it can damage their reputation. Web marketing is tricky indeed.

Your friend would be very wise to take your advice. You have taken what is often considered to be a complicated revenue stream and made it very simple. Excellent work – clear and consise advice that people should listen to.

I think it will take some noticeable traffic to a page of a web site in order for big name sponsors to approach you for advertising, or for that matter for you to approach them. I have found that one alternative is affiliate marketing through affiliate network sites like Commission Junction or Linkshare. By using the adds on those sites you can generate revenue by your reader taking some action, like clicking your add or filling out a form, etc. This type of marketing can help fill the void when direct advertisers are hard to come by.

I enjoyed reading your post; I am also interested in how many viewers it takes in order to “entice” a sponsor, in your opinion. I have seen people advertising their space in an actual blog post; however, I have also seen people doing product reviews. I don’t think I have enough viewers to have anyone interested in my site as of yet, but I would like to be prepared if I do end up gaining a little bit of a following. If there is any advice you can give me I would love to hear it! Thank you so much!
